If your company already has an existing evaluation form in WordPerfect or Word, it can be copied into Employee Appraiser to use as a one-time template. First, save the form from your word processor as Rich Text Format. Now load this form into Employee Appraiser by opening files with an *.rtf format.
Users commonly search through all factors in each topic to find the appropriate writing samples. By accessing the LIST button on the tool bar, you can quickly see the entire Employee Appraiser list of topics and a "one-liner" that summarizes the writing example. When you've found the topic and writing sample you're looking for, click on the GoTo button.
Employee Appraiser includes a merge function that will substitute employee information for field names in an evaluation document or template. To use the merge feature, type the field names where you want the employee information to appear in the document. The field names are: *NAME*, *TITLE*, *DEPT*, *MANAGER*, *GRADE*, *LOC*, *START*, and *END*. The field names correspond to the fields in the New Appraisal Information dialog box.
Review Writer's "Legal Check" tool flags language that could be inappropriate for a performance review. It scans for hundreds of words and phrases in over 30 different categories --physical appearance, ethnicity, gender and so on--and prompts you to consider different wording. If you identify other words/phrases that you would like flagged, add them yourself by following the instructions in the legal.wri file in the same directory where your Review Writer executable resides.
To import ManagePro information into Review Writer, choose the Import ManagePro Data command from the File menu. Then select the employee(s) for whom you wish to import data, select the checkboxes for the types of data you want to import, enter the import date range and click the Import button. If using the QuickBuild mode, the same process applies. Just click the Import from ManagePro button from the Create or Open Review dialog.
To customize Review Writer's default rating scale to match your company's standard scale, or create your own from scratch, select Tools/Options, click filetab number 4 (Preferred Rating Scale) and select one of the 10 standard rating scales provided with Review Writer (numeric and text). Or click the Edit Custom Scale button and enter your own ratings in the provided slots.
To transfer data from the office machine (where the centralized database resides) to a floppy for use in other settings, close all reviews and select Transfer to Another Machine from the File menu. Insert a disk, enter the letter of the drive, specify a filename and click OK. Your database is now copied to the floppy disk. To integrate the data back into the centralized database, open Review Writer (but not a particular review), select Transfer From Another Machine from the File menu, insert your floppy, select the drive and file, and click OK. Make sure your current database is on the floppy, as this will overwrite the database on your machine.
